Emer McHugh is an experienced Paediatric Speech & Language Therapist who provides comprehensive assessment and motivating, engaging therapy to children with speech, language and communication difficulties.
She is an enthusiastic therapist who is committed to providing a high quality client centred service.
Since qualifying with an honours degree from Trinity College Dublin in 2008, Emer has worked across a range of settings including HSE Primary Care, Disability services and Adult services. She spent many years in Primary Care Paediatrics working with children with articulation and phonology delays and disorders, receptive and expressive language difficulties, late talkers, children with hearing impairments and children waiting to access specialist Autism services. Following Hanen certification in 2009 she has provided numerous parent intervention programmes supporting parents to develop their child’s communication skills through everyday activities.
A keen interest in supporting families and children with developmental delays, Intellectual Disabilities and Autism has led her to her current role as a Senior Speech & Language Therapist on an Early Intervention Disability Team. In this role she provides diagnostic and developmental assessments and interventions as part of a multidisciplinary team to children with complex needs or a diagnosed disability. The team also provide assessments through the Assessment of Need Disability Act 2005. She supports families during the diagnostic process and is involved in pre and post diagnostic interventions for children with complex needs. Emer is passionate about supporting children and their families to enable a child to achieve their communication potential.
Throughout her work Emer has remained committed to ongoing education and training. She provides practice education for speech and language therapy students as well as having completed post graduate training in the following;
