Carla began her psychology career at the University of Nottingham, where she completed a Master of Science (MSc) in Psychology. Following this, Carla undertook an MA in Applied Psychology at University College Cork before obtaining her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology in Trinity College Dublin (TCD).
Working with children and young people has been a longstanding passion for Carla. As such, she has gained a diverse range of clinical experience across a variety of settings, including Children’s Disability Services (CDNTs), Primary Care Child Psychology services, Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS), and most recently in Children’s Paediatric Services. Carla also has experience working with and supporting Autistic children and adults in the community.
Carla has extensive experience of conducting cognitive, adaptive, and diagnostic assessments, as well as social, emotional and behavioural screeners. Carla is also trained in a variety of therapeutic approaches, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).
Carla believes in the therapeutic value of assessments for young people and their families, and understands the significant impact this can have on their lives. She, therefore, strives to adopt a compassion-focused, collaborative and child-centred approach to make children and families feel at ease and supported along their assessment journey. Carla also values working in a neuro-affirmative, strengths-based way, all of which she hopes creates a positive environment for children and young people under her care.
