Dr Claire O’Dwyer

Clinical Psychologist

Claire obtained her BA in Psychology and French from Trinity College Dublin and subsequently graduated with an MSc (Research) also from Trinity College Dublin. She then went on to graduate with a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (DClinPsych) from University College Dublin.

Claire has worked with adults, children, and young people presenting with a variety of needs across a range of settings including HSE Primary Care Psychology, Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS), Adult Mental Health Services, Psychiatry of Older Age, Child and Adult Disability services, as well as in hospital settings. She has also had several research-based roles, including as a Research Assistant in a third level educational setting and as a Research Officer in a large government agency. During her doctoral training, she undertook research exploring how healthcare staff can best support LGBTQ+ young people in healthcare settings.

Claire has experience working with children, young people and their families to carry out cognitive, adaptive, play-based and diagnostic assessments. She has also worked therapeutically with children, young people, and their families using a range of approaches including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Compassion Focused Therapy and Dialectical Behavioural Therapy. Claire has facilitated several group-based interventions for young people and their families, including Timid to Tiger and Parents Plus programmes, as well as peer-support groups for Autistic teenagers and Autistic young people in third-level education.

Claire is passionate about supporting children, young people and their families through the autism identification process using a collaborative and strengths-based approach.
