Dr Emma O’Byrne is a Chartered Clinical Psychologist who has obtained a BA Psychology, MSc Health Psychology and Doctorate in Clinical Psychology between 2013 and 2022.
Emma has a breadth of clinical experience working with 0-18 year old children and their families in a variety of settings within the HSE including: Early Intervention Services, Paediatric Primary Care, Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services, and the Paediatric Liaison Service at Temple Street Children’s University Hospital. In each of these settings she has helped many children, parents and families come to a strengths based understanding of their child and consequently offered practical and supportive recommendations or more in-depth therapeutic work, to support a family and school to improve a child’s quality of life. Emma works from a neuroaffirmative and child centered approach always aiming to focus on the child and families strengths, to make the process fun and easy for the children, and compassionate for the parents she works with.
Emma has also completed a number of child and adolescent specific trainings including: Parent’s Plus – Working Things Out (11 – 16 year olds) and the FRIENDS for life programme (primary school aged children). She has years of experience in delivering Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and has training in Narrative Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. Her Doctoral Research was based on interventions that can support the attachment relationship and consequent psychological wellbeing of children and their caregivers and has been published in the Infant Mental Health journal. Emma describes herself as an ally to the LGBTQ+ and neurodivergent community.
