Sinead completed her Professional Doctorate in Educational Psychology at University College Dublin. She also holds an undergraduate and two Master’s degrees in Psychology. Sinead works from a family-centred, strengths-based approach and is passionate about including the young person’s voice in her professional practice.
Sinead has a keen interest in the early years and has been working with preschool aged children since 2010. Prior to her Doctoral training, Sinead worked in mainstream and early intervention preschools, providing support to autistic children, their parents and their teachers. Throughout her Doctoral training, Sinead gained experience in a variety of settings including Child Disability services (Early Intervention and School Age Disability Teams), Primary Care Child Psychology Services, the National Educational Psychological Service (NEPS), and the Dyslexia Association of Ireland (DAI). She has worked with children and young people of all ages, from preschool to post-primary.
Sinead has completed comprehensive training in a range of psychological assessment tools. She has experience with adaptive, cognitive, play-based and diagnostic assessments. Throughout the assessment process, Sinead’s priority is for children and young people to enjoy themselves and to perform to the best of their abilities.
Sinead has experience in providing therapeutic interventions such as Solution Focused Brief Therapy, Compassion Focused Therapy and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). She is also experienced in supporting parents, including individual consultations and facilitating parenting groups (Parents Plus).
Sinead strives to be an ally and advocate for children and their families. Her Doctoral research explored parents’ experiences of navigating the health and education systems for their autistic children: from assessment to school placement.
