Dr Sharon Welby
Clinical Psychologist
Dr. Welby is a dedicated professional with a deep interest in autism along with a passion for working collaboratively with young autistic people and their families. With over a decade of experience supporting autistic individuals across the lifespan, she has held various roles prior to the completion of her doctorate in Clinical Psychology which have shaped her holistic approach to care.
During her doctoral studies, she gained extensive experience across diverse settings, including primary care, adult mental health, disability services (for both children and adults), school-age services, early intervention, and older adult mental health. Dr. Welby is highly skilled in conducting a wide range of assessments, including cognitive, adaptive, play-based, and diagnostic evaluations, enabling her to provide tailored support to her clients.
She is trained in multiple therapeutic approaches, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Therapy, Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), which she adapts to meet the unique needs of those she works with. Her keen interest in supporting parents has led her to become a registered facilitator of the Circle of Security, an attachment-based program designed to strengthen parent-child relationships.
Her research interests center on autism, with a particular focus on females. Her doctoral research explored the identification of autism in females from a clinician’s perspective, in the hopes of identifying any training needs required to support clinicians to become more confident with the identification of autism in females.
Through the provision of collaborative, evidence-based identifications and interventions, Dr. Welby continues to blend her clinical expertise, research insights, and passion for family-centered support, to make a meaningful impact in the lives of autistic individuals
