Sofie is a Senior Clinical Psychologist with experience working with children with a range of emotional, behavioural, and developmental differences and difficulties. She is passionate about working collaboratively with young people and their families, to ensure that their voice is heard. Sofie believes in adopting an integrative approach and strives to ensure an individualised and person-centred style. She is committed to completing best practice assessments, and to continued professional development.
Sofie completed her Doctoral training in Clinical Psychology with Trinity College Dublin. She holds a BA Psychology from University College Dublin and an MSc from the National College of Ireland, Galway. Sofie also completed additional training in Acute Mental Health Interventions with University College Dublin.
Sofie has worked in a range of health settings across services which varied in terms of complexity. These include Primary Care, School Age and Early Intervention Disability Services, Child and Adolescent Mental Health. She has worked with individuals managing a range of psychological difficulties including anxiety, low mood, self-esteem issues, eating distress, and self-harm. Sofie also has experience working within Adult Mental Health Services and has over ten years’ experience supporting Autistic people within Lifespan Disability Services.
Sofie has trained in a range of therapeutic approaches such as Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Compassion Focused Therapy, Psycho-dynamic, and Dialectical Therapy approaches. She has a particular interest in Compassion Focused Therapy and believes in the value of building strong therapeutic relationships. Sofie has facilitated psychological groups for young people to support emotional well-being and anxiety management. Additionally, she has facilitated supportive groups for parents such as Parents Plus and The Incredible Years.
Sofie has an interest in peri-natal mental health, including maternal and infant well-being. Her doctoral research exploring Mothers’ Experience of Peri-Natal Obsessive Compulsive Disorder was recently published in the International Journal of Applied Psychoanalytic Studies.
