Dr Leanne Maher
Educational & Child Psychologist
Leanne is an Educational and Child Psychologist who completed her Doctorate in Educational and Child Psychology at Mary Immaculate College, Limerick. She also holds a First-Class Honours Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from the University of Galway.
Prior to her doctoral training, Leanne gained extensive experience supporting autistic individuals across a range of settings. Her roles included working as a Research Assistant with the Irish Centre for Autism and Neurodevelopmental Research, a Social Care Worker with Autism Initiatives supporting autistic adults in residential settings, and an Assistant Psychologist at the Carlow Psychology Clinic, where she contributed to autism identifications.
Throughout her doctorate training, Leanne developed broad experience across diverse educational and clinical settings. She completed placements with the National Educational Psychology Service (NEPS), the Children’s Disability Network Team (CDNT), and Primary Care Psychology Services. Her doctoral thesis focused on trauma-informed practices within the Irish educational context.
Leanne is deeply committed to neuroaffirmative practice and takes a warm, collaborative approach to her work with children, young people, and their families. She strives to create safe, supportive spaces where individuals feel understood, valued, and accepted for who they are. Leanne supports children to develop a positive sense of self, confidence, and advocacy, while ensuring that their voice, identity, and lived experience are always at the heart of her work.
